KANSAS
I just got back from a very quick trip to Manhattan, Kansas. Being from Texas (and VERY proud of it!!), I had no idea that another state could be so beautiful.
We have a son getting married this month and his bride will be entering a doctoral program in psychology at Kansas State in the fall. So, her mother and I drove up with them (twelve hours) to find a place to live.
I really hate it when people use stereotypes and found out I am the worst! I expected to see farmland. Instead, I was very surprised to see garden after garden filled with the most gorgeous irises and peonies. And the fragrance was out of this world. The iris in Kansas grows like the cannas do here in central Texas. I could almost move there myself.
I must say that the campus is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. And this is coming from someone who has Texas A&M at her backdoor. Most of the buildings we saw were built of huge blocks of limestone and the architecture was beautiful. The grounds of the university are very well kept and all of the shrubbery and trees were full and green. We water and water and water in Texas and nothing looks as lush as the greenery I saw.
The people we met were very nice everywhere we went. Since my kids will be there for about 5 years, I was very pleased with their new surroundings.
So, my hat is off to you, Kansas. Take care of my kids!!!!!
