Well, Aunt Joanne has sent me more memories. This time they are of Granddaddy. He is about 8 years older than she is, so you can imagine how she must have looked up to him and his girl friends, especially to Marybeth, who he married at the ripe old age of 18. I think they married almost right after graduation.
We’ve been married for almost 21 years and for all that time I have wanted his graduation picture that was hanging on the wall in Grandma’s bedroom. Well, it is on its way to my house now via the US Mail. But, Joanne scanned it in for me and I’ve included it here.
Wasn’t he a cutie? But, the eyes are those of a stealy-eyed killing machine. I’m so glad that the Lord saved him, because now he has a twinkle in his eyes. :)
Anyway, here is her newest note to me:
“…as for memories…. the ones I have of Robert are few. I was so young when he became an adult that I was in my own little world and we really didn’t have that much contact that I remember. Except……. More…

My sister-in-law recently came to visit. She commented that Granddaddy always has a big smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. He’s a lot like their mother, she said. Grandma always tried to be positive about stuff and she had a wicked sense of humor.
Joanne is the baby of the family. She said Grandma took her to her first R-rated movie and also began to tell a few off-color jokes. Now, none of my children will believe that, but I believe Grandma told me once that she took Joanne to an R-rated movie. So, there.
Anyway, I think I’ll let Joanne tell the rest of the story:
One time we went to the museum and there was two small statues next to each other made by the same artist. One was a man in sheer agony and the other was a man that appeared to be smelling his own under arm. It was mom that came up with the idea that the first was dying from the odor and the second was wondering “Is that me that smells?” We laughed so hard that the security guard came to see what we were up to. After we left the room we peered back in to find him looking the statues over. Which only made us laugh harder. And then when we went back some time later, they had separated the statues to across the room from each other!
That has to be one of the funniest stories I have ever heard about my mother-in-law. It’s almost a sacrilege to tell such a story about her. She was the sweetest and kindest woman I ever knew. But, she did have a twinkle in her eye that said….I can be VERY bad!!
I wish I knew the statues; I would post the pictures of them. Here they would be…forever funny! If my art history expert has any clue how I could begin to look for them, maybe I’ll add them later. –>
