One year ago today, Granddaddy went into the hospital for a blood transfusion. He was almost dead. The next day we were told he had cancer and wouldn’t live more than 18 months.
Pretty scary…..
It’s been quite a year. It’s been scary, for sure. It has, in fact, been quite a roller coaster ride.
…and it’s not over yet.
But, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be on this ride with than Robert and with Jesus right by our side. –>

We’ve watched a couple of good movies this weekend. We actually were very surprised by them both.
The Great Raid
This was a movie about a part of World War II that some of us don’t think much about. We hear a lot about storming the beaches at Normandy and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. But, how much is really told about the POW camps in the Philippines. There the Japanese held Americans and Filipinos for about 3 years while the war in Europe was being fought. Many of the Americans thought they had been forgotten and left behind by their country. It was very well done. It was not a brutal, blood and guts movie. (Well, there were a few spots…burning bodies, etc). But, a good historical film nonetheless with Benjamin Bratt and Joseph Fiennes.
Brothers Grimm
One Word…Weird. Granddaddy and I watched it and then Lauren and I watched it. Not quite what I expected but quite a magical adventure through an enchanted forest. Oh, the one word description was Lauren’s.
Hope you all had a great holiday!

Out of curiosity, more than anything else, I have taken on the “challenge” to read this trilogy. In December, the first book comes out as a movie with Nicole Kidman. I don’t particularly care for her and probably would not have cared to watch it. … However, now that I have read the first book, I think I might!
I started on this journey because my dear daughter-in-law read the books and wrote about them on her blog. I’m sure the hype will get bigger as the movie release approaches. I’m not sure how much of the anti-religion theme will be brought out in the movie. I’ve only read the first book and was not seriously offended.
Mr Pullman, by his own admission, is against organized religion but promotes his own religion of atheism. More…
