God is so good and just continues to help us through this journey. More and more we realize we are on a journey…a long one. Robert’s oncologist no longer considers him terminal, but guarded. Sally Jean once said, and it is true, that we are fighting a chronic illness.
Although he is having some side effects from the treatments, they aren’t continuous. He can still taste food well, so his appetite is good. He’s lost a little weight since starting back on the treatments, but he had gained 20 pounds during the time he was off treatment. He needed every one of those pounds, but he’s certainly not in a danger zone there right now!!
On Tuesday, however, he received an overdose of his chemotherapy. When they placed the pump on him to bring home, the rate was incorrectly set. In 30 minutes, he received all he should have received in 24 hours. The nurse realized what she had done and she called him to turn it off. The doctor decided to stop the rest of the treatment he would have received for the week. He said Robert shouldn’t have any side effects until MONDAY!. Can you imagine knowing that something is going to happen in a few days, but you aren’t quite sure how bad it might get? Right now, we are nervously laughing. But, his white blood cell count is probably slowing dropping and, by Monday, he could run a fever and get very ill. Any fever would not be good. However, the doctor did not seem to be overly concerned and didn’t feel that Robert should be either.
So, that is how we are asking you to pray…that the Lord would just protect him through this and keep him free from fever.
I think I’ll end this as I started, because it is so very true…..God is so good and just continues to help us through this journey.
We love you and pray for you all daily.
Sandy and Robert
